SlimQuick

Designed specifically for women, SlimQuick markets its product as and advanced fat burner that claims to overcome hormonal and physical barriers specific to women trying to lose weight.

The ingredients are groups into a list of “complexes” with a complex of vitamin/mineral ingredients, another labeled as a hormone balancing complex.  What is clear is the inclusion of 200 mg of caffeine substances in each capsule.  The initial recommend dosage is one capsule before breakfast and one more dose six hours later.   It is recommended that dosage be increased in the second week to two capsules twice a day.   At that level, SlimQuick delivers 800 mg of caffeine which could be a problem for any user not accustomed to such stimulants or to someone who drinks caffeine containing drinks during the day.

SlimQuick is not one diet supplement but offers a variety of formulas from the standard to a night formula and offers another version with SlimQuick Extreme.  Unlike the next top weight product reviewed, every SlimQuick product page has a significant list of personal and medical conditions that could lead to serious side effects when using the product.

Liporidex

This extremely popular weight loss supplement was developed by doctors and medical researchers which I found reassuring.   The ingredients are clearly listed along with explanations of the purpose of each ingredient.   Liporidex is an all-natural diet supplement that contains no caffeine or chemical stimulants.

Perhaps for that reason, there are no warnings listed for this dietary supplement.   There is no long list of consumers who should avoid taking the product.   To the contrary, the safety of Liporidex and purity of ingredients is stressed as much as the benefits and fat burning properties of the diet pill.

Offered by only one manufacturer provides quality control of ingredients missing in hoodia or acai products where fly-by-night companies often do not provide the ingredients listed on the label.

There is some indication that carnitine supplementation may help to accelerate recovery following exhaustive exercise (Volek et al., 2002) an effect that could translate into an eventual ergogenic benefit in athletes training or competing over multiday events where postexercise recovery becomes a limiting factor.In terms of weight loss, the very low calorie diets (less than 800 calories per day) used for intensive obesity treatment have been shown to result in lower levels of carnitine in the blood and tissues, possibly owing to an increase in carnitine excretion (Davis et al., 1990). Because carnitine transports fatty acids into mitochondria for oxidation, any reduction in carnitine status in people trying to lose weight may be viewed as detrimental. A double-blind investigation (Villani et al., 2000) tested the weight loss effects of carnitine in 36 moderately overweight women over 2 months (18 received 4 g/day of carnitine, and 18 received placebo).Subjects also completed 30 minutes of walking exercise (60-70% of maximum heart rate) 4 days/week. Results indicated no significant changes in body weight, fat mass, or the amount of fat oxidation at either rest or during exercise, suggesting that carnitine may not be particularly effective for promoting weight loss.Supporting the beneficial role of carnitine supplements, however, are studies in kidney dialysis patients showing that low carnitine levels in the dialysate can lead to elevated levels of blood lipids. Likewise, studies of heart disease patients have shown that carnitine supplements (2 g/ day over 6 months) can reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Perhaps the most convincing data on the benefits of carnitine as a dietary supplement come from several studies of patients with heart disease. Among persons who had suffered a heart attack, carnitine supplements (2-3 g/ day over 4-8 weeks) resulted in a reduction in the amount of damage to the heart muscle and an increase in heart muscle viability (Pichard et al, 1989). Among those suffering from angina (chest pain), carnitine reduces the incidence of angina and cardiac arrhythmias as well as reduces the need for antiangina and antiarrhythmic medications. How Reading Can Help With Weight Loss Programs

If you have a young person in your life with a weight problem… acknowledged or not… this latest study is going to give you a unique way to encourage healthy habits. Reading. Obesity researchers at Duke University found that reading (the last activity that you’d expect) helped teen girls enrolled in weight loss programs.
The researchers looked at 31 obese girls, between the ages of 9 and 13 who were enrolled in the Healthy Lifestyles Program at Duke Children’s Hospital. The average body mass index (BMI) of the young subjects in the study was 27 to 28. Girls of this age usually have a BMI of between 16 and 19.
The program, now in its second successful year, works to address patients’ medical, dietary and behavioral needs. Treatment includes an extensive initial evaluation, an intensive lifestyle intervention phase that lasts six months and a maintenance phase that remains in place until adulthood. As part of their program, some of the girls read a novel titled Lake Rescue, where the heroine is an overweight girl struggling with low self esteem, isolation and teasing. Another group of obese girls read a different novel, and a smaller group didn’t read at all.
Here’s the strange thing… all the girls who read books lost weight, but the ones who read the book with the overweight theme lost significantly more. The Lake Rescue readers lowered their body mass by .71, compared to .33 for the other group of readers. The girls who did not read saw an increase of .05 in BMI.
The idea behind the approach was to find something to motivate the teens, without being strict and authoritative. The book was the perfect choice as it presents a likeable character who works through her issues and learns to make healthier choices. And since there aren’t many choices to help young teens loose weight, reading is a unique approach that can be helpful on many levels.
All of us need to be aware of the epidemic proportions of childhood obesity in our country. Truth is, this didn’t start overnight, it has roots as far back as the 1960s. Fast food and gargantuan portion sizes continue to play their part. As do the TV and computer, keeping kids sitting so much of the time. Throw in some fear for their safety, and working parents who don’t have the flexibility to take kids to sporting activities and you can see how we got here.
